Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was a ground-breaking film, garnering Walt Disney a special Academy Award with one full-size statue and 7 smaller statues. It still holds up today as a brilliant example of animated film. There’s something about the simplicity of the hand-drawn animation that captures Snow White’s innocence in a way that computer animation never could.

The new Diamond Edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs includes at least one feature that makes it ideal for families. The boxed set includes both a Blu-ray and a DVD copy of the film. The Blu-ray Disc provides a wonderful visual and audio experience, as well as a disc that can handle more handling by little hands. The DVD copy is great for watching in the car, taking on an overnight to Grandma’s house or bringing on the family vacation. It’s a brilliant idea that makes the extra price you pay for Blu-ray a bit more palatable.

Another new feature is something they call “Disneyview” which, unfortunately, sounds cooler than it is. I thought it might involve additional features worked into the movie, but it’s actually a way of filling out the picture when watching on a wide-screen TV. An artist created sidebar images that frame the movie so you’re not distracted by the black bars on either side of the picture. I actually found them a bit more distracting, but some people might find them visually appealing.

There is a new music video, but most of the other features will be familiar to those who have previous versions of the DVD. This is a great movie and, if you don’t already own it, I highly recommend one of the Blu-ray combo packs (even if you don’t yet own a Blu-ray player). If you’ve already got a copy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVD, it will probably do the trick until the next version of the movie hits the shelves.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for review purposes from One2One Network. There was no promise of a positive review. The opinions and ideas stated in this blog post are mine.
