KT Tunstall Digs Deep with Tiger Suit Album

I can’t say that I’ve been a long-time fan of KT Tunstall. I “discovered” her music, along with plenty of others, on So You Think You Can Dance. That said, it’s just the kind of music I love and I immediately became a fan. I suppose that’s good enough! When I had the chance to check out her newest album, Tiger Suit, I obviously jumped at the chance. I’m glad I did, as it hasn’t disappointed.

In reading over KT’s website, I learned that she took time off to travel and “find” herself before starting work on this album. With her husband, she visited Chile, Peru and India, before landing in New Zealand for some collaborative work.  It shows. Her music is still upbeat, but the lyrics show a deeper range of emotion and there are hints of world beats sprinkled in like a dash of exotic spice. Her lyrics display love, heartache, bitterness and some wry humor. My personal favorite lyrics [from “(Still a) Weirdo”] are, “Optimistic but never quite elegant, Still a weirdo, Still a Weirdo, After all these years.”

If you’re a KT Tunstall fan, I think this is a wonderful extension of her music collection. If not, Tiger Suit might just convert you.

Disclosure: I received a review copy of Tiger Suit from One-to-One Network. There was no promise of a positive review and the opinions contained in this post are my own.
