Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, Brewster, MA Review–The Grounds

Last month, LadyBug and I enjoyed a girl’s weekend at the beautiful Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, MA. I’ve already shared their decadent recipe for S’mores Cookies, but it’s time for the important stuff. I’ve got a three-part series on The Grounds, The Accommodations, and The Amenities. I had to split it up because I’ve got so many pictures I want to share!

Guests arrive at Ocean Edge via a sweeping circular driveway around a vast expanse of lawn that is used throughout the day for family games and weddings. LadyBug was impressed before we even turned onto the property. Her eyes grew huge and she said, “Mama, are we staying here?”

We were greeted at registration by a pair of these stately lions. Of course, LadyBug couldn’t resist hopping on for a “ride.” I think they were one of her favorite things on the property.

Ocean Edge has two main areas. We stayed on the mansion side, but there are also accommodations across the street near the golf courses. Each side has its own amenities. This is the mansion that impressed LadyBug so much on our arrival.

The mansion is stunning inside. This is a sitting area just off the lobby. The views from that upper window are amazing. You can see all the way out to Provincetown on a clear day. We thought they had excellent taste, but we are a bit biased. You can’t see it in the picture, but LadyBug was quick to notice that the rug under those chairs is the exact same one my mom has in her family room.

I love the mix of old and new decor.. These pendant lights are very modern, but still match the overall style at the mansion. I want some for our house…

After checking in, we set off for our room. The “Mansion Rooms” aren’t actually in the mansion. They are in two buildings just behind. They are connected on either side by a covered walkway. LadyBug thought this turret was reminiscent of Rapunzel.

After we got settled into our room (more on that later), we set out to explore. If you’ve never been to the Cape, you may not know that it is sheer heaven for hydrangea fans like myself. Edge was no disappointment in that area. We found plenty of stunning hydrangea bushes.

This is the walkway down to the beach. It winds through the woods and you would have no idea that the ocean rests on the other side. There are some benches along the way if you want to just sit and read a book in the shaded quiet.

It’s almost shocking to head out of the wooded area to this amazing view. The beach is only available for those staying on the Mansion side of the property, but you can drift over here and check out the vistas without heading all the way down to the beach.

I’ll give you the scoop on their accommodations (including rates) in my next post. They won’t disappoint, but honestly, we just loved the grounds so much that they are worth highlighting on their own.

  1. This is a very nice write up and everything you say about the resort is correct. Unfortunately, the service once you arrive is less than should be expected for the price you pay to stay.

The member of staff at the entrance to the driveway leading to our accommodation was most unhelpful when we asked for guidance. In fact he appeared to be deliberately obtuse.

The food at the Linx club house is vastly over-priced.

We attended a wedding during our stay. The food service at the dinner was dreadful meaning that the steak when it arrived was cold.

There were many other complaints from other members of the wedding party (and particularly from the bride and groom) which lead us to suggest that this is not a resort to recommend.

One last moan is that I object to being charged a service charge of $25 on top of an accommodation charge of $239 when no mention of this is made at the time of booking.

    • Thank you for your comments. Since my stay was part of a press weekend, I know that sometimes I get a different point of view. We had no issues with the food (even before officially starting our weekend), but we did not attend a wedding, either. I rarely enjoy wedding food regardless. Something about serving so many people at one time throws a wrench into things!

I did fail to mention the service charge and will mention that in my next post. I’ve been slow in adding it, but it will focus entirely on the accommodations.

      Thanks again!

  2. Thank you for your response.

Actually, the food at the wedding was tasty. It had been spoiled not because it was poor food but because the management of the wedding was poor. As a British visitor to USA I have always been impressed by the high standards of food service generally here. Ocean Edge Resort fell far short of a good standard.

I know what you mean about catering for large numbers of people but I have been to many events where the food has been excellant (I’ve also experienced the opposite). Surely Ocean Edge Resort should be providing good food for the prices they charge?

One of the things that struck me about the whole weekend was that they seem to be managing a huge site with inadequate numbers of staff.

I enjoyed my stay because it was shared with family and friends but I don’t think it was value for money.
