Sharing My #DisneySide with the Girl Scouts

If you’re a regular reader, you know that I’m a Disney fan. When I first heard of the #DisneySide promotion, I laughed and said, “I don’t have a Disney side. I’m Disney through and through.” If most of our belongings weren’t still in boxes, I’d show you how Disney runs through our house… Winnie the Pooh shower curtain (with Mickey Mouse curtain hooks), Mickey Mouse fireplace set, classic Disney character pop corn bowls, Mickey Mouse throw, Winnie the Poor trivet, Mickey & Minnie wedding cake topper, and a collection of classic Mickey memorabilia. The kids have their own Disney “collections,” of course. As you can imagine, I was thrilled to have the chance to hold a Disney Side party and share my love of Disney with my Girl Scout troop.

Each Disney Side host received a kit filled with items designed to make the party a lot of Disney –filled fun. We then filled in with our own imaginations. If you want to see all of the goodies, I did an unboxing video:

We only had about an hour to celebrate and 11 girls to entertain, so I thought it would be best to do three stations. The first was a decorate-your-own cookie station. It started with these adorable Mickey Mouse cookies:

Each girl got two cookies to frost and decorate. I used the cupcake liners to hold white chocolate chips, but we also had a variety of sprinkles and decorating sugars.

As you can imagine with first and second graders, the whole thing turned into a delicious, sugary mess. The girls had fun, though.

The second station was t-shirt decorating. Our kit included some Hanes t-shirts and fabric markers. I printed out Disney coloring sheets for the girls to either trace or use as inspiration.

Some decorated with Disney characters. This was one of my favorites, of course:

Some of the girls just let their creativity run free. I love this one. So happy!

One of the girls decided it would be fun to have the other girls sign their t-shirts. They all loved the idea and it was extra special for LadyBug because it was our last meeting before our move. Even Bug joined in the fun since most of the girls are his age and have been in his class over the years.

The third station wasn’t part of the official kit, but it was the perfect addition. The kids got Disney Apples to Apples for Christmas and we all enjoy playing. Much like the regular version, players have to choose the right noun card to match the adjective card that has been played that round. All of the concepts are illustrated with Disney characters, moves, and objects. One of our first graders struggled with the reading, and the other with some of the concepts (she could read the words, but not quite get what they meant). The second graders had no problems at all.

At the end of the party, each of the girls went home with a cute goodie bag and a Mickey & Minnie “So This is Love” lithograph. The goodie bags had temporary tattoos, Craisins, and ESPN bracelets from the kit. I also added some Disney fruit chews and some sparkly rings.

We had a lot of fun and there was enough time and room for the girls to do all of the stations while giving extra attention to their favorite. Want to host your own Disney Side party? You can find recipes, activities, and more at the Disney Side website.

Disclosure: I received a free party kit from MomSelect in order to host a DisneySide event. There was no additional compensation and the opinions contained in this post are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

One Response to Sharing My #DisneySide with the Girl Scouts

  1. Oh my!! What a fun time! One of my favorite Christmas memories is from a neighborhood Christmas ornament making party. Parents leading each station. 15 plus kids moving through stations and a parent at 5 different stations leading the way. It was great and we still have the ornaments (ok so they are a little worn but it’s 30 years later!!) This sounds like a great time!! Love the Disney apples-to–apples….It is on the Christmas list now!! AK
