A Tour of the Nutcracker Suite at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common

I don’t like to pull my kids out of school for blogging events, but I do miss being able to share special activities with them. When The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common invited us to tour their “Nutcracker Suite” I knew Lady Bug would enjoy some quality time with me. And, since she already needed to leave early that day for a doctor appointment, it was excellent timing for a mother-daughter day.

Before we even went up to the suite, we were dazzled by the 18′ X 11′ gingerbread house gift shop made by Executive Chef Andrew Yeo. Check out the QR Code cookie on the right of the house. You can get all of the details of the display by scanning the cookie in!

Look at this adorable soldier cookie (and please excuse my Kindergartner’s sweater):

P1140108

Ho! Ho! Ho!

P1140110

While we were there, they served us a beautiful lunch inspired by their Sugar Plum Fairy tea. Look at the cute little finger sandwiches!

P1140111

The sandwiches were too fancy for my picky eater. The desserts were not!

P1140112

Everyone loved this fantastic bear in the suite. Lady Bug would have happily curled up there all day (and it inspired the Giant Bear Journey). There are some lucky kids staying in the suite who can watch TV with this big friend. This is the living room in the suite.

Hotel General Manager Rajesh Khubchandani read to us from The Christmas Quiet Book written by Deborah Underwood and illustrated by Renata Liwska. Lady Bug loved the story and was thrilled when they gave us a copy to bring home!

P1140119

The detail in the Nutcracker Suite is amazing. These toe shoes are autographed…

P1140120

This is the kids’ room. It’s just beautiful. See the parasols above the bed? And there are ottomans wrapped like presents.

P1140122

Some welcome treats!

P1140123

It was not easy to resist nibbling on these.

P1140124

The suite even has some toys. This dress-up ballerina is adorable.

P1140125

I was taken by this sweet puppet theater. I don’t think it would survive in my house, but it’s very pretty.

P1140128

Even the bathrooms were decorated. Lady Bug whispered to me, “Mama, even the bathrooms are fancy!”

P1140133

Here’s the designer of the suite Michael Barnum of Michael Barnum Studio. He did a wonderful job on the whole thing. You may note in some of the other pictures that there are some gorgeous curtains in bold stripes. He told me that they designed them as bags, so they just pull up and over the regular Ritz-Carlton curtains (see the curtains behind him?). I love that it’s a more cost-effective way to change out the window coverings. When the season is over, just pull down the bags and put them away!

P1140138

There were nutcrackers everywhere (naturally!). I like this gingerbread-themed one from one of the bathrooms.

P1140140

Here is the adult room. Rest assured that your bed would be wrinkle-free. This is what it looks like when kids have been rolling around on it. This room also has a private bathroom.

P1140144

Pastry Chef Kerry helped the kids decorate their own gingerbread men. She doesn’t come with the suite, but if her quickly decorated cookies are any indication, you’re in for a treat in the dining room, as well.

P1140150

Lady Bug made a cookie for herself and one for Bug. The team at The Ritz-Carlton Boston Common made sure that the cookies were Bug-safe, even though he wasn’t going to be there! How’s that for good customer service?

P1140151

Lady Bug just loved the Dancing Bear from The Nutcracker. She talks about this bear all of the time.

P1140154

A costume from a previous year of The Nutcracker. Just hanging out with you in the suite.

P1140158

And this gorgeous tutu is displayed in the kids’ room.

P1140160

Yum. Kerry sent us home with an extra gingerbread man for me and one for Big Guy. This one was mine.
