Annie Comes Back to Boston

We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to introduce our kids to theater early and often. My son could probably take it or leave it at this point, but my daughter still delights in the magic. And, honestly, it doesn’t matter to her if it’s a high school production or a full-scale Broadway affair. From the moment the lights dim, she’s transported to another world. I have a preference for musicals, but if my daughter has a preference, it’s likely to be anything that has kids in it. I think she feels like she can relate. Maybe your kids are already theater fans. But if they aren’t just yet, Annie is the perfect introduction. It’s got all the things kids enjoy… other kids, animals, a bit of mischief, a happy ending, a rags-to-riches story, and just enough peril to keep things interesting without being scary. The national tour of Annie is back in Boston , so now is your chance.

We received tickets for review purposes and had a wonderful time at the show. The kids were phenomenal. In addition to their obvious singing and dancing talent, they had fantastic comedic timing. I was especially impressed by Bunny Baldwin who plays Molly. She was cute, and hilarious, all wrapped into an energetic pig-tailed little package. Turns out, she’s what I consider a local… she’s lives not far over the border in Fitzwilliam, NH. The tour also features two other locals, Amanda and Katie Wylie from Franklin, MA.

But if there’s a scene-stealer in Annie, it’s almost always Sandy, the lovable stray. And this night was no different. From the moment “Sandy” stepped on the stage, the entire audience was in love. In addition to being one of the best trained dogs I have ever seen on stage, the connection between the Annie and Sandy was very clear.

Annie is at the Boch Center Wang Theatre from May 9-21. Performances are at 7pm throughout the week (except for Saturday, which has a 6pm performance) with matinees at 2pm and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Tickets start at $35.
