Gorilla Glass Helps Protect Your Phone from Scratches and Cracks When Traveling

It’s no secret that I love to travel. Whether it a road trip an hour or two away, or a flight half-way around the world, I’m ready to go. But as a blogger, I need technology that can keep up with me. Recently, at the Women in Travel Summit, I was asked by Corning Incorporated to help spread the word that dramatically improves protection against drops. This is not the sort of thing I take lightly. If I’m going to endorse a product, it needs to be something I believe in. The truth is I look for when choosing a new phone. I believe it makes for sturdier mobile devices. And, since we had a trip on the horizon and I notoriously do not have a screen protector or case on my phone (note: I DO not recommend this for other people), I thought it would be fun to share our journey from the perspective of my Droid Turbo.

Isn’t she pretty? Well, she’s amazing, too, but let’s just say that I’d like to keep her that way. Without the hassle of a case. Motorola’s Droid Turbo has Gorilla Glass 3, but we’re starting to see Gorilla Glass 4 in phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6. I know that Gorilla Glass helps protect my phone and Gorilla Glass 4 bumps that up a notch. According to lab studies, Gorilla Glass 4 performs twice as well as competitive glass products. High-end tech devices aren’t cheap, so I’m all about having the most resilient phone I can find.

We were invited to Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Walt Disney World and it seemed like the opportune time to put my Droid Turbo with Gorilla Glass through its paces. I normally carry a small purse with everything shoved inside, but for the flight I brought a versatile laptop bag. It had this cute little soft pocket with a zipper. My Droid Turbo thought she was at a spa… until I forgot and put my car keys in there, too! Oops.

 

Off to the airport. Security is always a bit of a nightmare. By the time we’re there, I’ve often moved my phone into my pants pocket for easy access. It frequently ends up traveling through security in one of those little plastic bins with any other stuff I’ve thrown in my pockets. Juggling all of my devices when I head into security is one of those moments where I am extra careful to avoid dropping my phone. In this case, however, we had been granted TSA PreCheck (SO MAGICAL). It gave me time to get myself organized and Droid Turbo made it back into her little safety pocket. I would have taken a picture of security but apparently they frown on things like that.

We made it to Orlando. Droid Turbo got a little nap on the plane, which is good because she was in for a busy time! Have you ever taken Disney’s Magical Express bus to a Disney World Resort? Look who was peering at me from outside the bus? Pretty sure it’s Donald’s nephew, Dewey. Droid Turbo was happy to be back from her nap to help me capture this shot.

We decided to hit the Animal Kingdom Park first. I love this little Simba drawing on the ground, but it was also a good reminder to take good care of Droid Turbo. These concrete paths are not at all phone-friendly. Corning knows that we often have to contend with hard surfaces. They focused their research on protecting devices when dropped from 3 feet off the ground, just about the height this image was taken from. Gorilla Glass 4 has additional resistance for sharp impact, such as what you’d get with concrete or asphalt. Someone was reading my mind since a prior Disney trip proved to be quite disastrous for a previous phone…. Hakuna Matata, Droid Turbo. I’m looking out for you.

One of our favorite things to do at the Animal Kingdom is to go on Kilimanjaro Safaris. I tend to alternate photos between my full-size camera and my phone so I can share things via social media. Corning doesn’t claim to protect your device from rhino attacks (luckily this rhino thought it was too hot to worry about us), but Gorilla Glass 4 can help protect your phone if you drop it in the safari vehicle. Happens all of the time  – those trucks are BUMPY!

Big ride of the day? Everest. Normally all of my devices are tucked safely away on a roller coaster. After all, Droid Turbo isn’t a big thrill ride fan; she prefers calmer attractions. In this case, she was happily bouncing around in my purse until the ride stopped for a bit. I couldn’t resist this shot! It’s one of my favorites from the trip.

After a long day, there’s nothing like relaxing at your resort. We had a big party on the sand here at the Yacht Club. You can bet that Droid Turbo was happy to have a little extra Gorilla Glass protection from scratches while hanging out at this party. Sand and glass? Well, let’s just say that they are two sides of the same coin and they don’t play well together.

Time for Droid Turbo to head back into my regular purse because we need to ride one more ride. This is what it looks like inside. There was a little more room than usual since I didn’t have keys and I had dumped out all of the loose change!

So… after hanging out on roller coasters and a safari, through ice cream and cinnamon rolls and fried dough, Droid Turbo is looking a bit weary. Honestly, I think we all felt a bit like this by the end of the day. Still, she’s thrilled to join us on the People Mover for one last hurrah. It’s one of our favorite rides and a relatively safe one for sensitive electronics.

As you can see, traveling is rough on our mobile devices. There is dirt, grit, and peril around every corner. Luckily, Droid Turbo made it through with no permanent damage. Another successful journey is done!
