Happy National Shortbread Day from the Walkers Shortbread Society

Walkers Chocolate Chip Shortbread
January 6 is National Shortbread Day (who knew, right?) and it just so happens that I have recently been invited to join the Walkers Shortbread Society. The Shortbread Society is a group of bloggers and other social media influencers who are interested in learning more about the Walkers brand (yum!) and sharing the information out with all of you. Chances are, you’re already familiar with Walkers Shortbread products. They are usually in the cookie aisle in their bright red Scottish tartan packaging. Walkers carries shortbread, but also other desserts like cakes and tarts. I can’t wait to try them all. But my favorite so far are the shortbread fingers which are not only delicious, but make a great base for homemade desserts, including one I will be sharing with you soon!

Shortbread has got to be one of the simplest cookies out there. It calls for butter, flour, sugar, and salt. And I know this may sound shocking, but that’s all you’ll find in Walkers Shortbread cookies. No preservatives or anything weird. That’s actually one of the reasons I signed on with the Shortbread Society. I like the product and feel good about sharing it. I may also have joined on the off chance they want to send me to their world headquarters in Aberlour, Scotland. Hey, you never know. While I wait for my invitation, I get to sample some Walkers goodies and, as the mood hits me, whip up a recipe now and again for you to try.

Walkers Shortbread RoundsThis month, I was sent three samples. I think they’re really the core of the Walkers line: Shortbread Fingers, Shortbread Rounds, and Chocolate Chip Shortbread. The Fingers are good for snacking. Just the shortbread and nothing fancy. I love the slightly salty buttery flavor of shortbread. Mmm. The Rounds look pretty for serving. They’re still the same classic shortbread flavor, but with a Scottish thistle stamped on them. And then, for the chocolate lovers, there’s the Chocolate Chip Shortbread. They look like little chocolate chip cookies, but with a shortbread base. My favorites are the fingers. I don’t know why, but I think it’s the purity of them. Delicious shortbread and nothing else.

Walkers has been producing shortbread for well over a hundred years. I’m just learning about the company, but it’s pretty clear they’re doing something right to have lasted so long. Plus, the proof is in the taste. Have you tried Walkers yet? They are lovely on their own with tea, but if you have any recipe requests, let me know. I’ve already paired them with chocolate. Next time, maybe something with lemon…

Disclosure: As a member of the Walker Shortbread Society, I received free samples and a small gift in exchange for my honest opinion.
