Geeky and Quirky Stocking Stuffers
Whether you’re buying for science and engineering loving kids or adults, these unique stocking stuffers are sure to please.
Thinking Putty
Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty is some weird stuff. It comes in different colors and properties (magnetic, glow in the dark, heat sensitive, and more). It stretches, bounces, tears, and shatters. We’ve got the Quicksilver Magnetic Putty and it’s cool and creepy all at once. It comes with a magnet for playing with. I can’t really do it justice in a paragraph, so here’s a video from their website. Warning: Does not play well with USB flash drives, even of the geeky variety. Keep away from your electronic devices! A tin of Thinking Putty (1/5 of a lb) varies depending on the type, but will typically run $10-$15.
Mimobot Star Trek USB Drives
I’ve long been in love with the Mimobot line because clearly they were designed for the geeky among us. But now they’ve launched some Star Trek characters and, well… how can you resist? You’ll find Captain Kirk, Spock, Data, and Captain Picard. Each one hides a USB connection in his head and 8GB-64GB of storage. They also come preloaded with digital goodies like appropriately-themed videos, comics, wallpapers, icons, and avatars. At $19.99-$69.99 each, you can easily make a fellow geek even happier this holiday season. Warning: Does not play well with magnetic putty.
ZeeBeez
Sometimes you get a toy and you wonder, Who would come up with this sort of thing and why? ZeeBeez from Zing Toys is one of those toys. Thing is, it doesn’t matter because it’s weirdly fun. Flip the rubbery ZeeBeez inside out and give it a twirl as you drop it. The ZeeBeez site says it can jump up to six feet in the air, but I’m pretty sure if can go even higher. We had three generations playing with ours. Definitely shop around for the best price on these, because they’re all over the place.
Nanoblock Sets
These made an appearance on my gift guide last year (twice), and probably will for years to come. I adore them. If you love building bricks, but feel foolish playing with them (you shouldn’t, but that’s another story), or if you don’t have space for a full-blown set, OR you just like a challenge, it’s all about the nanoblock sets. These tiny little bricks take plenty of patience, but it’s worth it for the great results. Check out the sweet little nanoblock Violin! Each set comes with extra pieces because it’s easy to lose a few while building. The nanoblock Violin retails for $11.99. It has more than 150 blocks and stands just over 4″ tall. If this isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other nanoblock sets available, including a snowman and a Santa Claus. Perfect stocking stuffers! I’m hoping for one of those to end up in my stocking this year…
