Kicking Off Healthy Eating with The Fresh Diet

This week, I’ve been sampling The Fresh Diet. It’s a diet plan that consists of fresh meals that are delivered straight to your home. Now, here’s the deal. I’m not a big believer in “dieting.” I do believe in eating well, but I’m pretty much failing miserably at it. So, while I was interested to check out The Fresh Diet, I went into it with a bit of trepidation.  I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the meals (I’m a picky eater) and I was anticipating feeling hungry all of the time. I don’t do hungry well.

Starting on The Fresh Diet was pretty easy. You choose between two plans, both of which include 3 meals (including dinner with 2 sides) and 2 snacks. The Chef’s Plan allows you to list 8 ingredients you don’t like (or can’t eat) and then the chef chooses your meals for you. The Premium Plan allows you to choose unlimited foods you don’t like, but then you choose your own meals. The system alerts you if you choose an item that you don’t like. You can either choose to deal with it, or you can choose something else. I was happy to be placed on the Premium Plan, because I like control over my food. Even with that level of control there are a few meals I’ve selected that I’m not sure I’m going to like. That said, I decided to keep a reasonably open mind. There are foods I won’t touch (mustard, salmon, brussels sprouts), but I accepted things with ingredients that I normally wouldn’t choose to eat.

So, sign up, choose food for each day (or just set dislikes) and wait for the food to arrive. No, really. In my area I get delivery every night (seems to be about  midnight) in a cooler bag. The bag is secured with a zip tie, so you don’t have to worry about people tampering with your food without your knowledge. I find it a bit freaky to have my food on the front step every night, but I’m awake late enough to just bring it inside. Each meal/snack is in an individual container and is labeled. It also has directions for whether the food should be eaten cold, slightly heated in the microwave, or heated more in the microwave. Meals typically take less than 1 and a half minutes to heat up.

I’m going to save my full review for when my week is over, but I can say that I’m not particularly hungry or feeling deprived. Good news, indeed! By the way, the carrot cake above was my dessert tonight. I’ll admit that it wasn’t quite that pretty, but it sure was delicious!
