A few weeks ago, my family and I reviewed a couple of sets from the Bloco Toys Primates of the World collection. The sets each came with one construction set and retail at $14.99. Bug loved them, and I thought those were great for birthday party gifts. This time, we took a look at the Velociraptor & Pterosaur Kit. This kit, which allows you to build two dinosaurs simultaneously, comes with directions for a few different creatures, plus options for altering them. It retails for $19.99. I don’t actually have a picture of the dinosaurs assembled from our own home because the kids whisked them off to play with (and disassemble/re-assemble) them!
Bug had a little more experience after putting together the previous kits, so I think he found the dinosaurs easier to assemble. That said, there are still some small pieces that most kids at the lower end of the age range will struggle with. Big Guy helped Bug assemble these and was immediately a fan of the kits. He thought they were easy to put together with clear directions and, like me, thought the end results were pretty impressive.
While we enjoyed the earlier kits we reviewed, this one really encourages kids to take it to the next level. By giving options and alternative building plans, it helps kids see how the pieces come together and how they can create their own models. While the models still aren’t going to hold up to any kind of serious play, these two definitely survived some action in our home. As long as your kids enjoy the building process (or prefer to showcase them on a shelf), that shouldn’t be an issue.
The Velociraptor & Pterosaur Kit from Bloco Toys gets another thumbs up from this family.
