Big Apple Circus: The Grand Tour Comes to Boston [Giveaway]
The circus is coming! The circus is coming! Although our kids have been involved in circus arts for a few years now, we only just made it out to the Big Apple Circus last year for their Metamorphosis show. I loved it. I loved that it had so many traditional elements of circus arts like trapeze and high wire and contortionism and clowning. My kids loved it, too. Even Big Guy had fun. When we were offered tickets to their new show, The Grand Tour, we were all excited. And I was especially excited to be able to offer tickets as a giveaway so another family can fall in love.
The Grand Tour is set in the 1920’s and focuses on world travel, highlighting acts from around the globe, as well as various modes of transportation. There will be aerialists, acrobats, clowns, and some very cute puppies and ponies. One thing we all like about the Big Apple Circus is that, because you’re in a round circus tent, all of the seats are good. You’re never far away and everyone can see. And as a family with food allergies, we also like that no nuts or nut products are served at the circus, either, making it one less thing to worry about.
The show is about 2 hours, including a 20-minute intermission.
The Big Apple Circus: The Grand Tour is running from March 24-May 8, 2016 at City Hall Plaza. Tickets start at $25, but we’ve got a discount code for you as well. You should also check their website for other possible discounts and look below for a chance to win tickets. To save 20% per order for select performances, use the code BIGAPPLE* when buying tickets online at http://www.bigapplecircus.org/ and at the box office. *Limited availability. Offer good on select seats and shows. Other conditions apply. Children under 3 are free on the lap of a paid adult, one child per lap.
Special Performances
There are four special performances for families who need additional accommodations, or who are looking for an even more grand experience. From their press release:
Circus of the Senses will take place on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 11am. Circus of the Senses performances are specially adapted to enable children and adults with vision or hearing impairments and other disabilities to experience the joy and wonder of the circus. Through the use of audio headsets, Braille descriptive programs, American Sign Language interpreters, and a special “touch session” for selected participants after the show, anyone and everyone can enjoy Big Apple Circus’ The Grand Tour! Tickets for Circus of the Senses are $12.50 ($10 for groups of 10 or more). For tickets, please visit www.bigapplecircus.org/circus-of-the-senses to fill out a ticket application form. Please note that submitting the ticket application form does not guarantee tickets. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis to eligible groups. Priority is given to children with vision and hearing impairments and their chaperones. No ticket requests will be taken by telephone.
Big Apple Circus Embraces Autism will take place on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11am. Big Apple Circus has joined with world-renowned Autism Spectrum Disorders experts to adapt The Grand Tour for families with members on the spectrum and create a joyful experience for all. The adapted show includes the same world-class artistry as the full performance with a shorter running time, adjusted lights and sound, a calming center, pictorial social narratives, and specially trained staff and volunteers to assure a memorable event for everyone! All tickets to this special performance, a 75-minute abbreviated show, are half price ($12.50–$37.50).
The Grand Tour Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2016. The fun starts at 3:30pm with interactive entertainment by our Clown Doctors, followed by a full performance of The Grand Tour, and then dessert in the Ring with the performers. Plus free popcorn for all and free goody bags for the kids! Tickets start at $30. All proceeds support Big Apple Circus Clown Care® at Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as our adapted performances.
