Everybody Dance Video Game Review
Yeah, I like dancing video games. It’s ironic, since I can’t dance to save my life. I think it’s some leftover dream of being a performer. Anyway. Everybody Dance for the PlayStation 3 with Move gives you the chance to dance – and sing, if you’d like – to a variety of popular songs from Diana Ross’ Upside Down to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
The PlayStation Move controller allows the game to track not only your general movements, but to follow you in a 3D space. It’s still just tracking the movements of your one arm, but it does have a nice degree of accuracy. The PlayStation Eye camera catches the entire thing on video and you can share either a screenshot or the video on Facebook and Twitter. That’s not happening here, but you are welcome to show off your fabulous dance skills to the world.
Everybody Dance allows you to dance solo, of course, but you can also dance with a friend in either co-op or competitive mode. Competitive mode has you performing the same dance moves, while co-op brings you together in a joint dance routine. If you find yourself struggling with a routine, you can do a tutorial that breaks the song down into segments, allowing you to practice each one four times to try to get the best score possible. There is also a workout mode that helps you track the calories burned. My favorite addition, though, is the ability to record your own dances. Pick any song in the lineup and dance on camera. Once you save the dance, it become available to perform in the menu.
There is no unlockable content, although you can purchase additional songs for download. You’ll have to just be inspired to dance for the fun of dancing. Everybody Dance isn’t going to nab you a spot on So You Think You Can Dance, but it sure is a great way to spend some time with friends and get in a little exercise.
Everybody Dance retails for $39.99 and is rated T for Teen due to Lyrics and Sexual Themes. Parents should note that there are some songs that are child-friendly and some that are less so. Also, each dance is accompanied by a music video in the background. Some of the videos and music contain content that may be inappropriate for children.
Disclosure: We received a complimentary copy of Everybody Dance for review purposes. There was no promise of a positive review and the opinions contained in this post are my own.
