VTech Kidizoom Action Cam Review & Giveaway
My kids have recently launched a YouTube Channel called Parade of Elephants. They’ve really been getting into video and sharing content, so when we were offered the opportunity to check out the VTech Kidizoom Action Cam, we jumped on it. I mean, what aspiring videographer wouldn’t want to strap a camera to their bike, right? They have been watching enough YouTube videos to have a lot of ideas for how to put this camera into action. We started with an unboxing, so you can see what’s included in the box.
In the Kidizoom Action Cam Box
The VTech Kidizoom Action Cam comes with:
- A waterproof case (waterproof up to 6’)
- A strap
- USB cable for charging and transferring video
- Two mounts – one for bike handles and one stick-on for things like a skateboard – and a case for attaching via mount
It has a lithium ion battery, 1.4-inch screen, and a memory card slot. It does not include a memory card, so make sure to purchase one. You can’t do much without it! It can handle a card up to 32GB, and I’d recommend at least 16GB. 16Gb will hold about 120 minutes on the highest video resolution (640X480)., while 32GB will hold about 240 minutes (and 278,000+ photos!).
Sample Pictures and Video
Once we got it set up, I tested it out with a few pictures. Here’s Bug in our kitchen (fruit tiles left from a previous owner). We are standing under a fluorescent light, so it’s not dark in there, but you can see that it’s not quite enough light for the camera.
Here’s a picture using one of the filters and one of the backgrounds. Just for fun!
The kids took it out to play with that night, but it was pitch black and they lit the video with a flashlight. It worked, but it’s not a great representation of the Action Cam’s video quality. The next day, they took it out, mounted to Bug’s bike (completely on their own), and shot this. If you didn’t click through to the “Demo” on the above video, you can see it here. I didn’t edit it at all, so this is exactly what you’ll get riding a bike down our street. FYI, it is NOT the most dangerous hill in town, contrary to “popular” belief.
The camera takes stills, as well as time-lapse, slow motion, and regular video. There are some games that we haven’t touched, some filters (as seen above), and some silly props/backgrounds/frames (also seen above). All of that is fun, but the kids really only care about the video aspects.
Bottom Line
The VTech Kidizoom Action Cam is a rugged solution for kids who want to capture their adventures without endangering the family camera. It’s not the quality you’d get from something like a GoPro, but with a $59.99 MSRP, it’s much more affordable. It’s also easy for kids to use, which is a win for parents, too! The kids like it a lot, and I can even see taking it myself if I were off to do something adventurous and fun.

That looks super cool!
I’ve give it to my son – he likes to go on adventures.
I would give this to my son. It would be perfect for his trike rides, park visits and upcoming social events.
I would give it to my 5 year old, he would love to take it to the beach or to the park, he loves exploring and is really adventurous
I’d give this to my grandson and he would record his adventure to the park
I would give it to my 4 yr old. It would be cool to see him interacting with his baby sister via the camera!
I would give it to my son for his b-day at the end of this month. He would film himself at the park, on his scooter, riding his bike.
I would give this to my daughter, we reside in a rural area and she is always outdoors looking for insects and on her bike.
I would give it to my best friend’s son to record all of his Boy Scout adventures!
I’d give this to my nephew, and he’d probably record while biking!
They would record bike rides and nature walks.
I would give it to my baby brother. He likes to use the camera on my phone. I think he’d record random things.
My toddler would receive this as a gift if I win. I think he will be overly excited as I will be getting a camera of my own that looks similar.
