Mega LeapFrog Giveaway
So. I’ve talked about the LeapFrog LeapBand, which encourages kids to be active. And I’ve talked about LeapFrog LeapTV, which also pairs activity with education via a console gaming system. I have not yet shared with you the LeapFrog LeapPad 3, but it is the latest iteration of LeapFrog’s handheld gaming units. It’s a bit smaller and lighter than the LeapPad Ultra, making it more friendly for smaller gamers to hold. It’s also faster and less expensive, so there’s a lot going for this device as long as you’re willing to sacrifice some screen real estate. But, other than sharing the LeapFrog colors, quality, and educational gaming experience, what do these three items have in common?
LeapTV Gaming Console for Kids [Review]
Most of us with young kids are familiar with LeapFrog’s handheld educational gaming units. Maybe it’s a LeapPad, maybe a Leapster Explorer. Either way, the LeapFrog LeapTV console system was a bit of a surprise. In face, when they asked if I wanted to review out LeapTV, I don’t know what I expected. I did not bargain for a full-scale console system with sophisticated controllers and a camera that could detect input both with a controller and without. Wow!
Choosing Great Apps and E-books for Learning to Read
Apps and e-books are great ways to help kids learn to ready independently. They can help build confidence, as well as learn new vocabulary. Here are some quick tips for picking quality apps and e-books:
LeapFrog Leapband Review
This past winter, I visited LeapFrog to learn more about their corporate philosophy, their design process, and their commitment to education. I’m not sure what I expected, but this industrial space adorned with leaf canopies from IKEA wasn’t quite it. It was clear that the company had embraced their playful side! At the time, John Barbour, CEO, alluded numerous times to a new product that would help get kids to be more active, all while maintaining the spirit of the LeapFrog brand. We weren’t let in on the secret then, but it’s clear now that he was referring to the LeapFrog LeapBand, an interactive activity tracker for kids. I was given a unit for review.

Of those schools, 8 will win the top prize of an additional $15,000 cash grant and Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets for each of the students.

Monsters University Storybook Deluxe App Review
Do you have career aspirations to be a Scarer? Always wanted a job at Monsters, Inc.? Well, then, you’re in luck. Disney Digital Books invites you to enroll at Monsters University in their new app Monsters University Storybook Deluxe for iOS. Start out by taking a picture and making your own custom student ID. Will you be scary? Silly? It’s up to you. Then you’ll have to declare your major and select a fraternity or sorority (hint: Mike and Sulley join Oozma Kappa…).
Microsoft Stores as Community Spaces
You may have seen a Microsoft store in your community and I’m sure you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they sell a wide range of computers, tablets, phones, video games, and accessories. When I was asked to attend a webinar and visit a Microsoft store by The Motherhood, I’m not sure what I expected. I did not expect that Microsoft stores are becoming social spaces for learning and playing.
Harry Potter-Style Magical Training with Wonderbook: Book of Spells–A Review
If you know your Wingardium Leviosa from your Expelliarmus, and you’ve been waiting for your invitation to Hogwarts, I’ve got some good news for you. Sifteo Cubes Review
The new Sifteo Cubes are out and they are amazing. If you haven’t experienced Sifteo, it’s a bit tricky to explain. It’s a gaming system comprised of individual cubes that talk to each other and have motion sensing and touch screens. You play games by tilting, turning, and rearranging the cubes, creating a wonderful tactile experience. And. unlike the previous iteration, these Sifteo Cubes are entirely portable; they make a great travel toy.
